WHAT IS THE ASIC?

 

Atlantic Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI) Implementation Committee

In New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland the SFI® Program is managed by the Atlantic SFI Implementation Committee (Atlantic SIC). The committee is made up of interested stakeholders, respective SFI program participants and provincial natural resource departments that operate facilities, manage timberlands or procure wood fiber within those provinces.

The committee meets to promote the development of the SFI Program and to facilitate a response to Atlantic wide implementation issues, which include:

    1. Review Inconsistent Forest Practices public hotline complaints (1-800-631-3657);
    2. Coordinate the implementation of Best Management Practice (BMPs).
    3. Build Information packages for woodland owners and contractors; and
    4. Review SFI forest worker training criteria.

 

 

The Committee consists of SFI Program Participants, SFI Program Supporters, SIC Supporters and General Members.

SFI Program Participants
Organizations that are certified to the SFI Standard.

SFI Program Supporters
Organizations that are not yet certified but have expressed a commitment to the SFI Standard and an interest in becoming certified.

SIC Supporters
Organizations that support the SFI Principles and are committed to the betterment of forestry through participation in the SIC.

General Members
Other groups including consultants that support the SFI Principles and are committed to the betterment of forestry through a contribution to the SIC.
