WHAT IS THE MSIC?
Maritime Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI) Implementation Committee In New Brunswick and Nova Scotia the SFI® Program is managed by the Maritime SFI Implementation Committee (Maritime SIC). The committee is made up of interested stakeholders, respective provincial Department of Natural Resources and SFI program participants that operate facilities, manage timberlands or procure wood fiber within those provinces.
The committee meets to promote the development of the SFI Program and to facilitate a response to maritime wide implementation issues, which include:
- Review Inconsistent Forest Practices public hotline complaints (1-800-631-3657);
- Coordinate the implementation of Best Management Practices (BMPs) on private land.
- Build Information packages for private woodlot owners and contractors; and
- Review SFI forest worker training criteria.
The Committee consists of SFI Program Participants, SFI Program Supporters, SIC Supporters and General Members.
SFI Program Participants
Organizations that are certified to the SFI Standard.
SFI Program Supporters
Organizations that are not yet certified but have expressed a commitment to the SFI Standard and an interest in becoming certified.
SIC Supporters
Organizations that support the SFI Principles and are committed to the betterment of forestry through participation in the SIC.
General Members
Other groups including consultants that support the SFI Principles and are committed to the betterment of forestry through a contribution to the SIC.
